If at first you don’t succeed…
If at first you don’t succeed…
You will all have heard the saying, if at first you don’t succeed try ,try and try again. There is of course an alternative version of , if at first you don’t succeed, destroy all the evidence that you even tried. I am joking on that one.
There does occasionally come a time when you may have to admit defeat and say to yourself I’ve given this project my everything and I really can’t do anymore. Perhaps it’s time to handover to somebody else. I’m sure most of us can think of a project where we have given our everything to it yet for one reason or another hasn’t progressed as we’d hoped. It’s so frustrating when you can see the benefits to all involved yet for reasons of finance, politics or just other items on someones else’s agenda that appear more important to them and not necessarily you. I think under the circumstances it’s time to reflect on the positives that you gain from the experience but also not to use up energy by becoming bitter and disenfranchised with the whole process. What is better is to look to the future , decide what you want and put plans in place to deliver them. Perhaps in the great scheme of things it wasn’t you or me that was meant to deliver that project but somebody else is now waiting in the wings as yet unaware.
Think of all the things that you’ve learnt, how are you going to put them into practice for the project. Even from the jaws of defeat nuggets of wisdom can be obtained. Life is a learning experience. It’s how we respond to those setbacks that matters and defines us.
