Be kind … to yourself

Whilst working in an action learning set recently one of the participants indicated that they had slipped behind with their programme participation. The connotation was obviously negative. As the conversation continued they disclosed that they had taken on the management of a new team, had been subject to a major restructure, had moved offices, were dealing with ongoing covid issues and were piloting hybrid team working. I felt it was massively important to interject. I reflected back to them what they had said and said, “ from what you have said you are doing and amazing job being here today as well as continuing to deliver in the workplace”. You attendance here leads me to believe that when you have the capacity you will pick up with your study again. Why is it that we are so self critical when we wouldn’t dream of being so critical with others? So when you are struggling, just remember all the positive things that you have delivered, all the challenges you are facing and show yourself the compassion that you undoubtedly would show others.
