Slaying the vampire in the room

Slaying the Vampire

Let’s talk Vampires, in particular, Energy Vampires.

If you haven’t come across this term before , read on.

An Energy Vampire is a person or even an activity that sucks the life blood, energy and enthusiasm out of you.   They are almost always around and can have a really detrimental effect on both team and individual.   The person in a meeting when presented with an innovative suggestion lists all the reasons why “ it will never work” without acknowledging the merit of the suggestion or looking at ways to make it work    The process or work environment that grinds you down into submission until all will to fight back against the system is lost and you are left a hollow empty shell of your former self

So how do you slay the vampire in the room? Maybe garlic and waving a crucifix around might not be the best approach in these circumstances.

First of all shine the light on the person.  Asking for their suggestions and if none are forthcoming ask for ways to make the previous idea work.

Generate enthusiasm and energy amongst colleagues, talk about possibilities., how to improve processes.

Explain about energy vampires and  their effect on individuals, team and creative thinking.

Continually look for ways to improve and be creative. Just remember we all know an energy vampire , we know their tactics and we must not let them win.
